Emotions In Pregnancy

Real People:

I went up and down with my emotions from one minute to the next. I notice it's, it's kind of been an emotional roller coaster for us. There were a few times when I would find myself crying one minute and laughing the next minute and being angry the next minute after that. I think I have more moments where I’m just overwhelmed. I cried at the drop of a hat. I would see a commercial on TV and I’d just get all teary-eyed, and I’m like ok, what are you doing? You know, I’ll hear a song on the radio or be singing a song in church, and it, it will, will make me tear up. And you can feel it coming on, it's amazing, oh, it's crazy. I don't think I’m crying out of the ordinary. I don't know, maybe my husband would have something else to say about that. It can be very frustrating, I think, for the husband at times. The joy of being a mother and carrying a child is really indescribable. I feel very content about being pregnant. There's just, just a calmness and a sense of peace that I’ve never found in anything else in life. I had this feeling that I was this complete person. I just think it's incredible, I mean, I think about her now and I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when she's actually here in our arms. That's probably one of the best feelings about being pregnant is, is the expectation, the excitement and the joy just knowing that, that soon a little life will be in your arms.

Let's talk a bit about the emotional impact of pregnancy. Pregnancy is a time of intense emotions, probably more so than at any other time in your life. So don't be surprised if you feel moments of great joy and elation, and then find yourself depressed just a short time later. The hormonal activity in your body can sometimes make you feel like, ooh, an emotional yo-yo. Uncertainty can also add to the stress of pregnancy and make you more emotional. A million questions and concerns may be running through your mind. What will being pregnant feel like. Will my baby be healthy? Will I be ok? Will I be a good parent? Well, now, there is no easy solution to the emotional ups and downs of pregnancy, but hopefully the up times will help to balance the low times.
