After your baby is born, it's so important that you keep an eye on how both of you are feeling, and what your bodies are doing. Let's start with warning signs that you may be having some complications after your baby's delivery.

Please contact your provider if any of these things happen:

  1. If you develop a fever.
  2. If you begin bright red bleeding after your lochia has changed to brown or yellow.
  3. If you notice redness, tenderness or a “hot” lump in your breasts.
  4. If you develop a foul-smelling vaginal discharge.
  5. If you notice increased pain at your episiotomy site.
  6. If you notice a drainage or redness in your abdominal incision.
  7. If you are depressed, have loss of appetite, extreme mood swings, uncontrollable crying, or feelings that you want to hurt your baby.
  8. Burning, frequency, or a sense of urgency to urinate.
Dad/Partner Tip
Go with your partner to her appointments, hear your baby’s heartbeat, see the ultrasound, and ask questions.
