Nurse:

Be sure not to "diet" for several weeks after your baby is born. You can begin to exercise as soon as you feel up to it, but it's a good idea to start out with nothing more strenuous than walking. Please check with your provider before starting an exercise program. Most providers can suggest some safe and effective postpartum exercises.

If you decide to breast feed, please don't plan to diet while you're nursing your baby. Producing breast milk will use extra calories, nutrients and minerals. You should eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of fluids and take a prenatal vitamin each day while you're breast-feeding your baby.

Even though you’ve lost the weight of the baby, you'll keep some weight from the extra fluid and fat that your body made while you were pregnant. It will take time to lose this weight, so please be patient with yourself!

Dad/Partner Tip
Talk to your partner and be honest, let her know how you are feeling. Bond with your baby, feel it move, and talk to it before he or she is born.
